The Story
Kendra, a woman in modern times, is struggling to overcome a life filled with difficulty and tragedy. Feelings of inadequacy and the self-righteousness of some around her push her away from the God she longs to know. A friend tells her the New Testament story of Christ's compassion and mercy toward the woman taken in adultery. As the audience is transported back to the dusty streets of Jerusalem, two thousand years ago, characters such as Mary, the mother of Christ; Judas Iscariot; Peter; and the woman taken in adultery come alive to Kendra. She draws strength from these stories and her faith in Christ is renewed.
Two of the most compelling characters in "Power In His Touch" are Judas Iscariot and the woman taken in adultery. Judas' betrayal of the Lord is one of the most tragic stories in history. While Judas' actions can never be condoned or justified, I find him to be a truly sympathetic character. The fact that Judas was a disciple of the Savior for so many years is evidence that he felt love for Jesus Christ. He was so overwhelmed with guilt and remorse after his betrayal that he took his own life. To me, the story of Judas is the story of a man who misunderstood Christ and his mission on this earth. It is a story of a man who allowed his love for the Savior and faith to be overcome by darkness, power and greed.
I've always felt that Christ's mercy toward the woman taken in adultery is one of the most poignant examples of the Savior's compassion. While no one knows the circumstances that led this woman to be found in her situation, one can imagine that she faced difficulties and crossroads in her life as each of us does. I find it easy to believe that she became a follower of Christ after she tasted of His love and mercy. The song "Who Is This Man"is a glimpse into her character and what she might have felt after her experience with the Savior.
